OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - “Mary - First Disciple”: new eConference from Church in Australia

Tuesday, 27 April 2010

Broken Bay (Agenzia Fides) - “Mary, First Disciple" is the theme of next eConference that will simultaneously link the entire Catholic Church in Australia on May 18, 2010, featuring the participation of faithful scattered in dioceses everywhere. The conference's keynote speaker will be Salesian Fr. Frank Moloney and will provide an interactive format that allows you to participate live.
Organized with the technical assistance of the Broken Bay Institute, it is the third of its kind, having been preceded by one held for the closing of the Year of St. Paul and another, in November 2009, dedicated to St. Luke.
As the Australian Church tells Fides, the experiment carried out during the Year of St. Paul was a great success, so the Church decided to continue exploring the road of “eConferences” as a tool for virtually gathering the entire national community and deepening in the spiritual and pastoral issues of interest through live coverage on the web.
The success of the past web conferences demonstrated a broad interest in the style of these events and the quality of education imparted. The feedback has been 90% positive and 95% of the participants asked for another event of this kind.
This is why the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference has decided to sponsor and promote further eConferences. It seems that this method of creating an "e-community" can become its own style of ministry and work of evangelization of the Australian Church.
The event brings to fruition the idea that modern media, if properly used, can be a resource and effective instrument of evangelization. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 27/04/2010)
