Wednesday, 21 April 2010

Luanda (Agenzia Fides) – The Catholic University of Angola (UCAN) in Luanda has launched a post-graduate training program, called an “MBA (Master of Business Administration) Atlantic.”
The name of the MBA program comes from the fact that involves teachers and lecturers from three Portuguese-speaking states bordering the Atlantic Ocean: Angola, Brazil, and Portugal. The course aims at training managers for leading companies in the three countries.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Angolan Minister for Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Maria Candida Teixeira, Bishop Filomeno Vieira Dias of Cabinda, and the Rector of the Catholic University of Portugal, Paulo Alinkaste.
The MBA Atlantic is an initiative of joint training among the Catholic University of Angola, Portugal, and Brazil, over a period of 12 months during which students can access an educational program on economic, social, and political aspects of the three Portuguese-speaking countries.
The Dean of Faculty of Economics and Management at UCAN, Professor Justino Pinto de Andrade, explained that the relationship among the three universities is balanced. "Now, we must look at the other on an equal footing, in a relationship of cooperation, particularly in a relationship of brotherhood. This is the example that the academic world has to offer; this is the example that universities must provide for society," said the Dean.
The Master consists of three phases, to be held respectively in Angola, Sao Paulo (Brazil), and Porto (Portugal).
Minister Maria Candida Teixeira commented: "The Universities of Angola, Angola's Catholic University, and the Pontifical University of São Paulo should be encouraged because, in addition to their main mission of improving the training of highly qualified personnel, they will be creating - in strategic terms - a unique opportunity for society in the three countries involved to become more competitive."
