AMERICA/PERU - Entire Church promoting XLVII World Day of Prayer for Vocations

Wednesday, 21 April 2010

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – Sunday, April 25 marks the XLVII World Day of Prayer for Vocations, with the theme: "Witness Awakens Vocations." In Peru, this day is enlivened by the Bishops' Commission for Seminaries and Vocations, through materials that seek to promote its celebration in the different ecclesial communities. These materials include the messages of Pope Benedict XVI for World Youth Day, the prayer for the celebration, and the methodological vocation guide, designed for formators and seminarians from every diocese, with issues of great importance for the promotion and formation of vocations.
In the presentation of this material, the Bishop of Tacna-Moquegua and President of the Bishops' Commission for Seminaries and Vocations, Bishop Marco Antonio Cortez Lara, said that Jesus calls us to be His witnesses. "Like the first disciples of Jesus and of the early Christian communities were witnesses to the truth with faith, wisdom, and hope, I hope that in today's world, men and women may become glittering mirrors of God's Love (.. .) witnesses of the love of Jesus Christ, holy and virtuous," wrote the bishop.
According to a source Fides Agency in Lima, preparations have been underway for this celebration for several months in almost all parishes in the dioceses of Peru, where one day a week has been set aside for prayer and organization of this World Day. Even religious communities have come together to work on its preparation, in places where they work or where they exercise their pastoral work. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 21/04/2010)
