AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Over 67,000 people assisted by SNPS/Caritas in Colombia, in 2009

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) – Fides has been sent the full report of the year 2009 from the National Secretariat of Pastoral Social Ministry (SNPS/Caritas Colombia), which offers a detailed report on the various activities of the SNPS, a strategy for strengthening the capacity of service in diocesan charities, its link with the Institute of Humanitarian Studies, the Colombian Church's action in favor of Haiti after the earthquake. The National Secretariat of Pastoral Social (SNPS/Caritas Colombia) in 2009 has seen more than 67,000 people affected by emergencies, both by the armed conflict and the cold wave during winter in the country.
According to the national emergency services, the SNPS/Caritas Colombia, in 2009, 16,335 people benefited from food aid, thanks to the delivery of 3,267 food kits for families and communities. Similarly, 51,450 people benefited by the distribution of kits for home, kitchen, and dining items, personal hygiene products, clothes, and other items for housing improvement, i.e. support for non-food materials.
