AMERICA/PERU - National Encounter on Climate Changes and the Rights of “Mother Earth”

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – The National Encounter on Climate Changes and the Rights of “Mother Earth” will take place on Tuesday, April 13 at the headquarters of the National Agricultural Confederation, in Lima. It has been organized to strengthen the programmatic and political unity of Andean and Amazonian organizations, to confirm the defense of life. 100 representatives of indigenous organizations, peasant, trade union, and social movements in general, discussed, and accepted the proposals of the working groups on the themes of the World Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth, to be held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, April 20 to 22. An important agreement was to convene a national mobilization for June 5, the anniversary of the massacre of Bagua, in defense of life and to remember those who gave their lives in defense of the Amazon.
