ASIA/TAIWAN - We should all learn to “be generous with God,” not only the young people

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – In an open letter published on the occasion of World Youth Day (WYD), normally celebrated on Palm Sunday this year at the diocesan level, the youth ministry group of the Commission for Evangelization of the Taiwan Regional Bishops' Conference called on all Christians and people of good will to support and pray especially for the Church's commitment to youth. Citing the message of Pope Benedict XVI for WYD 2010, entitled "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" (Mk 10:17), the letter signed by Msgr. Thomas Chung, head of the group, said that "the Pope's message is not just for young people, because 'being generous with God' is something that we all have to learn constantly." "God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9:7) and "a gesture of generosity is also a sign of confidence, it means that we have full confidence in the Church; we believe that the mercy and justice of God are infinite." This concrete form of support "would allow us to organize meetings and courses for young people nationally and would also help our young people to attend the International Youth Day." Msgr. Thomas Chung reiterates in his open letter that "these young people are the Church's vitality today, and the pillars of tomorrow," hoping that "in participating actively in the life of the parish, the diocese, and the community, young people may also be accompanied by the old, who are wise and rich in experience and can lead them to the Lord."
