AMERICA/BRAZIL - Seminar on human trafficking brings together authorities from various countries

Sao Paolo (Agenzia Fides) – There is a Regional Seminar on trafficking in persons and sexual exploitation taking place today, March 25th, in São Paulo (SP), with the participation of authorities from six nations. The Queen of Sweden, Queen Silvia Renate Sommerlath, will open the event. According to information received by Fides, there are various governmental authorities, prosecutors, lawyers, police, investigators, from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, as well as representatives of civil society organizations and the United Nations participating in the event. Representing Sweden is the country's Social Development Minister, Göran Hägglund.
The goal is to share successful experiences in combating human trafficking and strengthen the fight against this type of crime among the participating countries. Sweden contributes to the debate with its political experience and practice in the area. Adriana Maia, specialist in technical cooperation on human trafficking from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said that "this event serves as a means to coordinate efforts and strengthen the work against trafficking."
