AMERICA/CHILE - “Church in Mission”: new radio program in Chile to support Continental Mission

Monday, 22 March 2010

Santiago de Chile (Agenzia Fides) – The challenges of this missionary time after the anguish of the earthquake, were the first topic addressed by the new radio program "Church on Mission”, which opened March 18. The program provides entertainment and a meeting place for the community and is produced by the National Commission for the Continental Mission and broadcast by Radio Maria and its network of affiliated stations, along with the dozen radio stations in the circuit ARCA, the Association of Catholic Radio Broadcasters in Chile.
In the first episode, the journalist Jaime Coiro interviewed the executive director of the National Commission for the Continental Mission, Rafael Silva, who told about his experiences of working on evangelization and the mystique that comes from Aparecida and impels the Church to be in a permanent state mission.
The earthquake and tsunami of February 27, its impact and the needs arising from the tragedy, was another topic of conversation. Carolina Jorquera, journalist, first in charge of this radio program, spoke with her colleague Carlos Carvacho, of Caritas Chile, about what the disaster has meant for the people at all levels. Father Mario Aburto, pastor of St. Joseph in the city of Constitución, also presented his testimony.
The "Church on Mission" will air on the ARCA circuit of Catholic radio stations at different times, while Radio Maria (89.3 FM Santiago) and several radio stations linked to it, will transmit it every Thursday at 6:30pm. Audio files will be available from ARCA (www.arcachile.cl/banco.html). (CE) (Agenzia Fides 22/03/2010)
