ASIA/HONG KONG - Year for Priestly Vocations: diocesan priests make pilgrimage to Ars and shrines in France

Friday, 5 March 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – Strengthen the awareness of the identity and spirituality of the priest in this Year for Priests: this is the reason for the European pilgrimage of the priests of the Diocese of Hong Kong. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Msgr. Dominic Chan, Vicar of the Diocese of Hong Kong and guide of the pilgrimage, said that this initiative is intended to help diocesan priests, especially the young priests, to experience three dimensions – of being guide, priest, and pastor – by visiting Ars, the house St. Therese of Lisieux, the Benedictine Monastery, and shrines in France. The pilgrimage, scheduled from April 27 to May 13, will conclude with a meeting of priests with the Archbishop of Paris and the local Protestant community. Bishop John Tong, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, will give his blessing to the 22 priest pilgrims, from 17 parishes, upon their departure. During the preparatory meeting, Msgr. Chan presented the program, centered on the theme of pilgrimage and retreat, so that the priests can strengthen their spiritual life and deepen in their knowledge of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
