AMERICA/COLOMBIA - The priest and the digital world, theme for encounter led by CELAM Communications Department

Wednesday, 3 March 2010

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) – Today in Bogota (Colombia) marks the opening of the continental meeting of the Chambers of Social Communication of the Episcopal Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean with the Communications Department of CELAM. The meeting will be attended by the presidents and secretaries (Bishops) responsible for this section and will be held March 3-5 at the CELAM Offices in Bogota. These annual meetings have been institutionalized so as to exchange experiences and thoughts on issues of common interest, particularly on the guidelines proposed by the Aparecida Document on the pastoral care of the communication.
On the first day, the meeting will be divided by regions, in order to review progress over the last year. The program also includes a workshop on Benedict XVI's Message for the upcoming World Communications Day, which touches on the theme of the priest and the digital world. On the second day of the meeting, the Archdiocese of Guadalajara (Mexico) will share its experience on the pastoral care of communications. There will also be a reflection on communications in the light of Aparecida, by Bishop Gregorio Rosa Chavez, a Salvadoran Bishop and member of the Council of Bishops of the Communications Department of CELAM. The celebration of the Eucharist and prayer vigils will have an important role during the meeting. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 03/03/2010)
