AMERICA/BRAZIL - Formation, spirituality, and missionary animation: themes of the meeting for Regional Coordinators of the Youth Missionary Organization

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) – "Assessing the work that has taken place over the course of these four years as the Youth Missionary Organization of the country and the work materials, selecting the songs for the compilation of a CD, launching new proposals, planning activities for the Propagation of the Faith; the celebration of Paulina Jaricot, founder of the Propagation of the Faith from January 9, 2010 to January 9, 2011; exchange of missionary experiences..." This is what was presented by Father André Luiz Negreiros, the new National Secretary of the Pontifical Mission Societies for the Propagation of the Faith in Brazil, who led the second Regional Meeting of National Coordinators of the Youth Missionary Organization, held February 12 to 15 at the headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Brasilia.
According to information sent to Fides, the meeting was attended by 22 young representatives from the states of Alagoas, Amapá, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Goias, Para, Paraiba, Piaui, Rio Grande do Norte, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo, Sergipe, and Tocantins, and also by the Federal District. Guided by the theme of "Traces of Juvenile Missionary Spirituality" and the slogan "Called and Sent Out to All People," the young people had moments of spirituality and missionary training, and also participated in the evaluation and planning of activities undertaken by the Youth Missionary Organization throughout the country, sharing in fellowship and the exchange of meaningful experiences. Also, the musical pieces for the first CD to be launched by the National PMS in the second half of the year, were evaluated and selected.
There was also a missionary festival on the evening of February 14, which was attended by about thirty missionaries from countries all over the world who are participating in the intercultural training courses sponsored by the Missionary Cultural Center. In a festive and cheerful atmosphere, the young people were able to present some aspects of Brazilian culture and share the different experiences and traditions of the missionaries, through songs, dances, and games, thus allowing for a valuable exchange of gifts.
