Friday, 19 February 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – The teachings of Scripture and the Pope, personal spiritual experience and examples of the Saints were all presented to the faithful by Bishop John Tong, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, to encourage them in a continuous conversion, which will enhance their spiritual life in order to celebrate Easter with our Savior Jesus Christ. According to reports from the site of the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version in the diocesan bulletin), the Pastoral Letter for Lent 2010 from the Bishop of Hong Kong highlights conversion, justice, and above all social justice, as recommended by the Pope in his Message for Lent.
Being the shepherd of his flock, Bishop Tong has also shared with the sheep entrusted to his care, his personal experience: "St. John is my patron saint, so in addition to fasting, prayer, and almsgiving during Lent I personally like to read the Gospel of St. John. ..., especially the seven miracles .... to reflect on the challenges and graces of my life." In this Year for Priests, the reading of the Gospel of John "calls me to promote vocations, to pray for vocations." Finally, Bishop Tong encouraged the faithful "to take a step forward, through reading and meditation of Scripture, to live a transcendent, abundant life. Only then can we celebrate Easter."
