Kaohsiung (Agenzia Fides) - "Woe to me if I preach not the Gospel" is the recommendation taken from the Letters of St. Paul, that Archbishop Peter Liu Cheng-chung of the Diocese of Kaohsiung addressed to 241 students at the opening of the first training course for apostolic workers, organized by the new St. Paul Mission Center of the Diocese of Kaohsiung. According to information received by Fides, after 6 months of intensive preparatory work, the Center was opened earlier this year. Its aim is to train the best “announcers” of the Word of God, as Archbishop Peter Liu Cheng-chung said in his Pastoral Letter of 2010, for “the Word of God and the conversion of all people is the primary mission of evangelization."
The staff of the new Mission Center, part of the "Evangelization Project 1 +1" (every year each family is invited to bring a prospective catechumen and bring back a Catholic that has fallen away from the Church), is composed of 17 priests, 9 religious, and 13 qualified lay people. The spiritual director of the Center, Fr. Huang Jin Kun, said: "We expected 120 accessions for the first course, but as soon as the news got out, we received 241 entries. Isn't that encouraging?" The course “offers a good preparation on the Holy Scripture, and grace in light of the Word of God, in the light of faith. We hope to channel this energy and enthusiasm for evangelization and pastoral care." (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 25/01/2010)
