EUROPE/GERMANY - German Bishops inaugurate new Office for Missionary Pastoral Care at Major Seminary in Erfurt

Thursday, 14 January 2010

Erfurt (Agenzia Fides) - Since January 1, 2010, the new Office for Missionary Pastoral Care (Arbeitsstelle für Katholische Missionarische Pastoral, KAMP) has started its work in the local Major Seminary in Erfurt, in the new state of the “Land of Thuringia” (Germany). The tasks of the new office of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK) include the analysis of key issues in the missionary apostolate, monitoring and interpretation of the role of religion in society, the study of sects, ideologies, and new religious movements, as well as the coordination of pastoral care and assistance on the Internet in Germany.
At the official inauguration of the new office on January 15, the Bishop of Erfurt and President of the Bishops' Commission for Pastoral Care, Bishop Joachim Wanke, will explain the theme "Missionary Pastoral Care, A Challenge of the Modern Era” in his opening address.
The KAMP is the first office of the German Bishops based in one of the new “Länder” and the choice is no coincidence: the Catholic bishops wish to develop creative programs in the context of a Catholic minority. The aim of work in the new office is the sensitive approach to modern society, aware of its own message and mission. The new office promotes an encounter between knowledge and pastoral care, and collaborates with all the Catholic Archdioceses and Dioceses in Germany, as well as the religious orders and ecclesial movements.
