Friday, 8 January 2010

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Reflecting together on the priesthood in terms of theological, spiritual and psychological viewpoints, to promote a more reasoned and in key pastoral evangelization: this was the main reason for the Priestly Formation Meeting held in the Diocese of Hong Kong that has just concluded. The meeting was held in Holy Spirit Seminary, January 5 to 7, on "In the identity of the disciple we see the role of the priest." According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), some ninety diocesan priests took part in the meeting, which was opened by the Vicar General Msgr. Michael Yeung Ming Cheung. The Salesian Fr. Savio Hon and Fr. Lawrence Yiu Shun Kit, head of the seminary formation staff, spoke on the theme of the priesthood from the theological and spiritual point of views, respectively. Fr. Lawrence Yiu also indicated prayer as always the best way to renew the priesthood. Fr. William Yip, Director of the Philosophy Department at the seminary, one of the organizers of the meeting, stressed the importance of communion for priests, especially during the Year for Priests, calling for a deeper reflection on the priestly ministry, "as well as maintaining communion with the Lord, the priests also have to humanize the priesthood and enhance the human relationship with people, for a more effective evangelization."
