AFRICA/ANGOLA - 2010 sees new parishes for Diocese of Ndalatando, says Bishop Canda

Ndalatando (Agenzia Fides) – The Bishop of the Diocese of Ndalatando, Province of Kwanza North, Bishop Almeida Canda, said that the year 2010 will see the building of new parishes in different municipalities of the province. In a recent interview with the Angolan national radio, the Bishop said that in the coming days work will start on the construction of a new parish in Ndalatando, in addition to three already existing in the urban area of towns and in the villages of Kipata and Sassa. Another parish will be erected shortly in one of the ten municipalities of the province. The Catholic Church is present with parishes in the municipalities of Golungo Alto, Ambaca, Kikulungo, Samba Caju, Kambambe, Cazengo (provincial headquarters). Bolongongo, Banga, Ngonguembo and Lukala are still lacking in parishes. The prelate added that the intention of the Church is to ensure her presence on a provincial level and improve pastoral activities to increase the number of communities in the area of Kwanza North. Bishop Almeida Canda said that near the parishes, there will also be schools and health centers built. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 4/01/2010)
