AFRICA/ANGOLA - Faculty of Theology to be established at the Catholic University of Angola

Wednesday, 16 December 2009

Luanda (Agenzia Fides) – The Catholic University of Angola intends to establish a Faculty of Theology in short time. This has been stated by Archbishop Damião Franklim of Luanda, who emphasized that the requirements established by the Holy See for the creation of such an establishment is very high.
Archbishop Franklim explained that a first step towards the creation of this institution is the creation of the Institute for Theological Studies, affiliated with the Portuguese Catholic University, whose school year begins in March 2010. This institute could then evolve into a genuine Faculty of Theology at the Catholic University of Angola.
The Catholic University of Angola (Universidade Católica de Angola, UCAN) inaugurated its first academic year in February 1999. Currently, the structure of the University is divided into four faculties (Humanities, Law, Economics, Engineering), and some study centers: the Center for Studies and Scientific Research, and the European Documentation Center and the Center for Demographic Studies, the Center for Christian Reflection “Faith and Culture,” and the Center for Computer Science.
The degree courses offered are: law, translation, and administration; Bantu; English and Portuguese; economy, business management, accounting, engineering, psychology of work and organizations, and telecommunications engineering.
The Catholic University is considered the best private university in the country. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 16/12/2009)
