ASIA/HONG KONG - Formation of laity in parishes, in response to Year for Priestly Vocations

Tuesday, 15 December 2009

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - "The formation of the laity in parishes, to respond to the Year of Priestly Vocations" has been proposed by Msgr. Dominic Chang, Vicar of the Diocese of Hong Kong, to parishes. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), during the meeting organized by the Association of Catholic Laity to identify needs in the formation of the faith, Msgr. Chang reiterated the importance of promoting and organizing the formation courses. Indeed, "it's not only a question of personal growth in the faith, but it adds to this ideal of community building, putting into practice the mission of the Christians." Msgr. Chang also indicated the Lectio Divina as a useful method. Over sixty representatives from 20 parishes attended the meeting sponsored by the Association of Catholic Laity. They confirmed that "prayer for vocations" is the top priority for the parishes, and how for "the promotion of vocations everyone's commitment" is necessary, as well as "the collaboration between deanery and parish."
