Thursday, 10 December 2009

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital is on alert for the deaths of 37 children infected with dengue, and the increasing number of daily admissions due to this pandemic, which has even led to 29 admissions in one day. 10% of the hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from this disease, who for lack of space, have also been hospitalized in the department of urology. The medical staff of the center say they are very worried because 80% of the cases they have seen are of dengue hemorrhagic fever, and the majority of patients arrive on the verge of death. So far, the hospital has admitted 1,200 children infected by dengue, 800 of which had the hemorrhagic type. Nationally, it is estimated that in 2009 over 60 have died from this illness.
