AMERICA/PERU - HIV/AIDS apostolate is an opportunity to live the Gospel

Wednesday, 2 December 2009

Callao (Agenzia Fides) - "HIV/AIDS affects not only the body but the whole person, his relationships and his social life. This is a true pathology of the spirit. It implies a threat and involves a crisis of moral values," said the Bishop of Tarma, Bishop Richard Alarcon, in his speech on the occasion of World AIDS Day. Bishop Alarcon, who is also President of the Bishops' Department of Health Pastoral Care, called on all participants of the meeting, held to celebrate the Day, to follow the thinking of Pope John Paul II on this terrible disease that continues to infect every day thousands of people. He added: "To recognize the face of Christ alive in each patient, is the reason behind the work of the Pastoral Care of HIV/AIDS, our motivations are faith, hope and charity." The meeting was attended by health pastoral workers, members of the Bishops' Commissions of the country, and other professionals. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 2/12/2009)
