AMERICA/BRAZIL - Relics of Don Bosco travel to Porto Alegre: a long pilgrimage inspiring festivities and devotion everywhere

Porto Alegre (Agenzia Fides) - The world pilgrimage that in the next six years will have crossed five continents, arrived on November 30 in Porto Alegre. The urn containing the mortal remains of St. John Bosco, the Italian priest, founder of the Salesian Congregation, was greeted by hundreds of faithful who improvised a procession between the Guaíba Bridge and the Parish of São Miguel, in the district of Mont Serrat. From Rio Grande, the pilgrimage will also go to visit Bage, Santa Rosa, and Viamão, where the Salesians manage various centers of the state. Last Auguest, the urn left from Turin, Italy, where Don Bosco began his work and where he is buried. The pilgrimage will pass through 133 countries in which the Salesians are present. The trip will last until 2015, which marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the priest who founded the Congregation 150 years ago, for the education and training of youth. In Brazil, the urn, which contains a hand and arm of Don Bosco, has already passed through Paraná and Santa Catarina.The relics are accompanied by a group of Italian priests and will remain in Brazil until February 28, 2010.
