AMERICA/BRAZIL - Preparing for the First National Missionary Congress for Seminarians: “priestly formation for a mission without boundaries”

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - Representatives of institutions that are promoting and organizing the First National Missionary Congress of Seminarians gathered at the headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Brasilia. The event is scheduled to take place July 4-10, 2010 in Brasilia. According to a statement sent to Fides, the Congress will include training, workshops, celebrations, meetings and testimonies from the seminarians themselves. The objective of the mission is to foster awareness of future priests, in light of the Bible and the guidelines from recent Church documents, taking into account the human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral aspects.
At the meeting held on November 24, there was a presentation of the first guidelines for the event, which aims to bring together about 150 seminarians from all over Brazil. The theme will be "The training of priests on a mission without frontiers" and the slogan: "Called to be with Him and to be sent" (cf. Mk 3:14). Diocesan and religious seminarians from all over Brazil, beginning with those in their third year of philosophy, will be invited to participate after the third year of philosophy. The number of participants will be allocated proportionally to the presence of seminaries in various regions of the country, and enrollment will be carried out by the coordinators of the Regional Missionary Council (COMIRES) and the Organization of Seminaries and Institutes of Brazil (OSIB).
The meeting was attended by: the National Director of the PMS in Brazil, Father Daniel Lagni, the National Secretary of the Pontifical Missionary Union, Father Savio Corinaldesi, the National Secretary of the Pontifical Holy Childhood Association, Father Edson Assunta, the Director of the Cultural Center Missionary (CCM), Father Estevao Scrapers, the head of the Bishops' Commission for Ordained Ministry and the Consecrated Life of the CNBB, Fr. Reginaldo Lima; the head of the Bishops' Pastoral Commission for Missionary Activity and Interecclesial Cooperation of the CNBB and Executive Secretary of the Missionary Council National (Comina), Father Altevie da Silva.
