ASIA/PHILIPPINES - “The Bible in Every Home”: Daughters of Saint Paul support Bishops in campaign to spread the Word of God

Saturday, 7 November 2009

Manila (Agenzia Fides) - The Daughters of St. Paul are offering a practical contribution to the campaign launched by the Filipino bishops called “The Bible in Every Home,” which aims at a widespread distribution of the Word of God among Filipino families. The Sisters have in fact presented a less expensive edition of the Bible of the Christian Community, published by Paulist Press in collaboration with other publishers. The new publication will be available to parishes, schools and associations and will be sold at a very affordable price for families of every class and social condition. For the poorest families, the local Churches will buy Bibles and give them to those living in extreme poverty.
The Daughters of St. Paul attended the recent International Book Fair in Manila, which had as its theme: “Words without borders.”
Books, they say, can become powerful instruments of evangelization. The Daughters of St. Paul have also presented the "A to Z Guide for Observation of Media", a dictionary of mass media written by Sr. Clothilde de Las Llagas FSP. The book examines how the media influence the common language, through the dissemination of terms too often used incorrectly or with a different meaning from the original one. The volume represents a useful tool for developing critical thinking about using the media. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 7/11/2009)
