Pagadian (Agenzia Fides) – A photo of Fr. Michael Sinnott, Missionary of Saint Columban kidnapped on October 11 in Pagadian, has been shown on the news in the Philippines. “We hope it is real. If so, it would confirm that P. Sinnott is alive and for us, his brothers, it would be a great relief. Our hope is that the kidnappers care for the man they have taken hostage, thinking of the people he cared for, and that they have mercy on him,” Agenzia Fides was told in a conversation with Fr. Patrick O'Donoghue, Regional Superior of the Missionaries of Saint Columban in the Philippines.
“Real negotiating has still not begun. The kidnappers have not revealed their intentions. However, we trust in the Crisis Team that is following the case and that has placed the means and resources for freeing Fr. Sinnott,” the Superior said.
“We are very happy to confirm the state of good health of Fr. Sinnott. I think that the various attempts to send him medicine have been successful. However, he has been in captivity for three weeks now and his body will be greatly weakened. We are concerned and pray that this kidnapping will come to an end as soon as possible,” Fr. O'Donoghue said. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 31/10/2009)
