AFRICA/EGYPT - Catholic school directors attend conference; Jubilee Year announced for celebration of 350th anniversary of the death of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louisa De Mariac

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) – The Central Committee for Catholic Schools held its annual meeting in Cairo, to study the common themes and problems of the various Catholic scholastic institutes in Egypt. According to information sent to Agenzia Fides from the local Church, the Central Committee for Catholic Schools was established in the 1950s in order to coordinate the activity of the 122 Catholic schools in Egypt. The Committee is a member of the International Catholic Schools Union, headquartered in Brussels. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul celebrated the feast of its patron on the last Sunday of September, with a Mass at the school of the Sisters of Charity in Helmeya (Cairo). Fr. Millad Sedky, who presided the Mass, highlighted the service carried out by the religious and laity of St. Vincent de Paul to the poor and mentioned the opening of the Vincentian Jubilee Year declared worldwide in honor of the 350th anniversary of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Luisa De Marillac (1660-2010).
