Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Mr. Luca De Mata will no longer be serving as Director of Agenzia Fides, having reached the age of retirement. We express to him our gratitude, from the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples and all the staff of Fides, for the service he rendered with zeal and competence.
Until a new Director of Agenzia Fides is chosen, the agency will be under the direction of Fr. Vito Del Prete, Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, in all that concerns content and guidelines, and Fr. Timothy Lehane, Secretary General of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, in all concerning organization and personnel.
The Pontifical Mission Societies, which the Agency depends from, will continue to support and render Fides an increasingly more efficient instrument of evangelization.
As the statutes from its foundation state, the Agency will occupy itself with the Missio ad Gentes, with all this includes: preaching, interreligious dialogue, human promotion in its economic, social, and cultural aspects, and missionary cooperation of the churches.
It will be attentive to the missionary path of the Church and the missionary Magisterium of the Pope, directly entrusted by Christ with the mission of evangelization. (Agenzia Fides 9/10/2009)
