Lima (Agenzia Fides) - “God is present in this troubled world, to bring joy and peace.” This is what was affirmed by Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima, during an airing of the radio show “Faith Dialogue” on September 26. In his talk, Lima's Pastor sent a special greeting to the participants in the First International Congress on Social Networks for young people and professionals, organized this past weekend by the Diocese, in collaboration with “Link Unete A la Red” (see Fides 22/09/2009).
He affirmed that “in our day, the new evangelization requires new methods to make God's Message reach the globalized and digital world.” The velocity with which the world communicates presents a great challenge to evangelization.” Thus, “we should intervene without fear of technology, acknowledging that the new evangelization requires new methods.”
At the same time, “these new technologies on digital support allow us to communicate among us immediately, however they can also turn the human person into an easily manipulated object,” Cardinal Cipriani said. Thus, we need to “place a limit to technology, maintaining them as an instrument, so that man – in using them correctly – may be happy and widen his knowledge.”
In addition, on his weekly radio spot, the Archbishop of Lima dealt with the subject of Baptism, encouraging parents to “baptize their children as soon as possible, because becoming a 'child of God' should not be put off.” In addition, “just as a parent worries about and cares for their child, giving them vaccines and feeding them each day, the child also needs his spiritual nourishment from the moment of birth.” For their part, the godparents are called to be “examples, so that the child has an example of how to live well.” In closing his talk, Cardinal Cipriani addressed the subject of the presence of the devil, “a truth revealed by God and present in the Scriptures, that many times remains silenced so he can tempt many more people and lead them on the wrong path.” (GT) (Agenzia Fides 28/9/2009)
