Thursday, 24 September 2009

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - “Know the lives of men and women who are in the process of beatification or canonization; verify the current state of the various phases of the Cause, whether it be diocesan or in Rome; update facts and biographies about each Blessed, Venerable, or Servant of God.” This is the aim of the encounter with the Vice-Postulators of the Causes of Beatification and Canonization in Argentina, led by Bishop Santiago Olivera of Cruz del Eje, Bishops' Delegate for the Causes of Saints in the Argentinean Bishops' Conference, taking place September 25. The meeting will also help to plan the “National Day of Prayer” for the sanctification of the people of Argentina and for the glorification of its Servants of God, which various years has been celebrated November 1, the Feast of All Saints.
For the moment, the only Argentinean saint is Saint Hector Valdivielso Saez, who was born in Buenos Aires on October 31, 1910, entered in the Novitiate of the Christian Brothers on August 7, 1926, and died a martyr in Spain on October 9, 1934, along with a group of brothers who, like him, taught in a school in Turon, in the region of Asturias (northeastern Spain). He was canonized on November 21, 1999. The Argentinean Blesseds are: Laura Vicuña, Nazaria Ignacia March Mesa, Artémides Zatti, Tránsito Cabanillas, María Ludovica de Angelis, and Ceferino Namuncurá. There are also 40 causes for Beatification underway, some more advanced than others, whose candidates have been declared Venerable. Among the most well-known are: Fr. Mamento Esquiú, Mother Camila Rolón, Fr. José León Torres, and Mother María Benita Arias. (GT) (Agenzia Fides 24/9/2009)
