AMERICA/PERU - Preparing for the 66th General Assembly of the Inter-American Confederation of Catholic Education (CIEC): “promoting communion and solidarity gives an evangelizing perspective”

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – The 66th General Assembly of the Inter-American Confederation of Catholic Education (CIEC), an entity that works for the improvement of education in the entire American continent “promoting communion and solidarity gives an evangelizing perspective,” began with a Mass presided by the Archbishop of Lima, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne, yesterday afternoon (September 23). This year, the encounter (which lasts until September 26) will take place at the headquarters of the Association of Catholic Education Centers in Lima. In addition to members of the CIEC Council, the event will also be attended by delegations from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay.
“As Catholic educators, we believe in the future, because we believe in the God of promises,” the Secretary General of the Confederation, Fr. Ramon E. Rivas T, CJM, said in announcing the event. CIEC now includes 23 countries in the Americas, divided into 5 regions: North (Canada, United States, and Mexico); (Curacao, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela); Central (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama); Andina (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru); South (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay).
