AMERICA/MEXICO - National Campaign “Family, Be What You Are!” as a follow-up to the VI World Family Encounters

Monday, 27 July 2009

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) – The Bishop's Commission for Communication of the Mexican Bishop's Conference (CEM) has launched a national campaign “Familia, se lo que eres” (Family, Be What You Are), which will include various forms of alternative communication from various dioceses. The campaign began yesterday, July 26, feast of Saints Anne and Joachim, parents of the Virgin Mary.
The campaign is an initiative which implies all the leaders of the diocesan offices for social communications, as well as various media organizations in the country.
The campaign arose as a project of the past National Encounter of Catholic Communicators, in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas. Fr. Carlos Cardona, of the Archdiocese of Tlalnepantla, assured that this is the first step that consists in trying to create “synergy” in order to promote the efforts of Catholic communication in the country. The campaign coordinators decided to begin with a “family values campaign,” as a follow-up to the VI World Family Encounter that took place in the Mexico City at the beginning of the year.
A web page has been created to promote communicational materials and funding so that the dioceses and the various Catholic organizations that participate in alternative media can hold the campaign on a local level.
The project's coordinators are open to a the idea of, in the future, creating a Campaign Department within the Bishops' Conference and that future campaigns could address such issues as violence, insecurity, and respect for human life. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 27/7/2009)
