ASIA/TAIWAN - Vocational Group of Taipei asks cloistered monasteries to pray for priestly vocations

Thursday, 23 July 2009

Taipei (Agenzia Fides) – Knowing the situation of the priests and looking after priestly vocations are the tasks of the Vocational Group of the Archdiocese of Taipei. Today, on the island, unfortunately there are an ever fewer number of youth responding to the Lord's call. With the start of the Year for Priests, the Vocational Group has observed the urgent need and duty to work even harder, above all with prayer, asking the Lord to send “workers into His harvest.” Thus, several of its members have gone to ask the support of cloistered Carmelite Sisters. In recent days the leaders and several representatives of the Group traveled to the convent, for a “special” visit. They attended a Mass celebrated by Bishop Liu Xian Tang, Emeritus Bishop of the Diocese of Hsin Chu, offering it to the Lord for vocations. After Mass, they met with 5 cloistered Carmelite sisters and explained their intentions, who responded with great gentility and generosity. The sisters promised they would pray for abundant vocations in Taiwan. In the end, the Vocational Group left the convent, located up in the mountains, with the blessing of Bishop Liu, deeply moved by the simplicity and dedication of the Carmelite sisters.
