Friday, 12 June 2009

Rome (Agenzia Fides) – Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the feast of Corpus Christi, is very widely celebrated among Chinese Catholics. According to information released to Agenzia Fides, the majority of the communities celebrate the feast on Sunday, to cater to the needs of the faithful who work during the week, however in many other communities, especially on the mainland, which closely observe the liturgical calendar established by the Holy See, celebrate the feast on the Thursday after the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, in communion with the Holy Father.
A large Eucharistic Procession took place at the parish of Fan Ga Da, dedicated to Saint Joseph, in the Diocese of Xian Xian, today Cang Zhou, in the Province of He Bei, yesterday, June 11. At 7am, over 2,000 faithful, led by their 5 priests, held the Procession from the Church to the image of Saint Joseph and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Procession concluded around noon. During the homily, the priest explained the Eucharist, the meaning behind Eucharistic Adoration, how we should prepare ourselves spiritually to receive the Eucharist...
In the Diocese of Yang, in the Province of He Nan, preparations for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi began a month ago, with the “Eucharistic Adoration Pilgrimage.” The initiative includes a catechetical encounter, Eucharistic Adoration, Bible readings, a brief talk, prayer...all led by priests and deacons who visited all the parishes in the Diocese, exhorting the faithful to always be “prepared and worthy of the Eucharist they receive.”
The Archdiocese of Taipei invited the faithful to take an active part in the Eucharistic Procession that will be held on June 13, at the parish of Yang Ming Shan. In addition to the procession, there will also be recitation of the Rosary, Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration. The Archdiocese's statement says: “the initiative offers the faithful the opportunity to become more aware of the holiness and grace of the Eucharist. Also, it has an impact on the non-Christians around us.” (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 12/6/2009)
