AFRICA/MALAWI - Auxiliary of Lilongwe appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on April 29, 2009, appointed Fr. Stanislaus Tobias Magombo, of the clergy of the Diocese of Dedza, National Secretary for Pastoral Ministry for the Malawi Bishops' Conference, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Lilongwe (Malawi), assigning him the titular see of Cesarea di Mauretania.
The new Auxiliary Bishop was born on February 24, 1968 in Matowe Village, Kachindamoto, Dedza. After attending the Dedza Minor Seminary (1985-1989), he studied at the National Philosophical Seminary of Kachebere (1989-1992) and later the Theological Seminary of Zomba (1992-1996). He was ordained a priest on August 3, 1996 for the Diocese of Dedza. He has since ministered as follows: Parish Vicar and later Parish Pastor in Ntcheu (1996-1999); Licentiate studies in Spirituality at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi, Kenya (1999-2001); Rector of the Minor Seminary of St. Kizito; Diocesan Consultor and Director of the Diocesan Office for Education (2001-2005); since 2005, he has served as National Secretary for Pastoral Ministry for the Malawi Bishops' Conference, residing in Lilongwe (assignment renewed in 2008).
