Monday, 20 April 2009

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) – The Bishops of Mexico will meet April 20-23 in the capital city, for the 87th Plenary Assembly of the Mexican Bishops' Conference (CEM), with the goal of “discerning how best to go about the pastoral renewal of parishes, in light of Aparecida and the Continental Mission in Mexico.”
The Assembly will be attended by 125 Bishops and 100 Vicars working in Pastoral Ministry, from the various Mexican dioceses. The central theme will be: “The Parish” and the guide will be the Final Document of Aparecida, especially the section on the Parish.
The Assembly will open in the Basilica of Guadalupe today, April 20, with the Consecration of Mexico to the Holy Spirit (see Fides 16/4/2009). The Eucharist will be presided by Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes of Tlalnepantla, President of the CEM.
The goal of the sessions will be that of finding a vision of the whole, analyzing the pastoral work of the parishes in Mexico's society, etc., in order to determine what priorities exist for parochial renewal. On April 22, they will use the Aparecida Document, in addition to other pastoral documents, to examine the nature and mission of the parish, indicating the great areas of its missionary potential. On Thursday, the goal will be to discuss the concrete means for carrying out the Continental Mission in parishes and finding the most adequate support mechanisms. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 20/04/2009)
