Friday, 27 March 2009

Kingston (Agenzia Fides) – The Archdiocese of Kingston (Jamaica) will be hosting the Antilles Youth Assembly, July 9-20, organized by the Antilles Bishops' Conference. 2,000 youth are expected to attend from all over the Caribbean, during the two weeks in which they will have direct, close and personal contact with the leadership of the church and share their faith with their peers. The theme will be: “If you only knew what God was offering you” (Jn. 4:10): Evangelizing youth for a fuller life in Christ.”
Activities will be divided into two phases: on July 9-13, activities will be centered in the parishes in the Archdiocese as well as parts of the Diocese of Mandeville; July 13-20, activities will take place in the city of Kingston and will be focused more on catechetical themes.
Among the Assembly's objectives are: “reaffirm the Catholic identity of our youth; give a Catholic vision for their lives; teach them to share a Christian experience with peers; help them discern vocations to the priesthood & religious life; teach them to see themselves as a part of a vibrant youth Roman Catholic congregation across the Caribbean region.
The first youth assembly was held in Curaçao in 1999 and in 2003 it was held in Trinidad and Tobago. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 27/3/2009)
