Friday, 27 February 2009

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - “In the midst of this economic crisis, we should not forget about spiritual investment.” These were the words of the priests of Hong Kong in their petition to the faithful, calling them on to a more fervent participation in the faith life of the parish, in the inauguration ceremony of the new Spiritual Center (Living Faith Society, Ltd.) and Bookstore, which took place on February 14. According to a report from the Kong Ko Bao (Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), the pastors of the Diocese of Hong Kong addressed the lay directors of the Center, saying that “Christian spirituality and formation are two projects that we can invest in our entire lives. There are less vocations and thus, the need the laity to help fill in however they can in the ranks of pastoral ministry. They are in your midst. So, set out into the deep and help the faithful to realize that the Lord loves them. This is the best gift they can be given. You should value it to the fullest.” According to Fr. Thomas Kwan Tsun Tong, spiritual director at the Center, “years of experience have showed us that the laity are carrying out a top-flight pastoral activity.”
The Spiritual Center (Living Faith Society, Ltd.), a lay entity, began upon initiative of the laity who wanted to take advantage of their faith and apply it to Christian life. They are also becoming more and more aware of their identity as laity participating in the priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission of the Lord. The activities that they promote are mainly formation, on-campus evangelization, and Catholic editorial, through the Bookstore (“Gift to the Soul”) affiliated to the Center.
