OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Bishop of Kundiawa resigns, successor appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on January 12, 2009, accepted the renunciation of the pastoral government of the Diocese of Kundiawa (Papua New Guinea) presented by Bishop Henk Te Maarssen, S.V.D., in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, canon 401 § 1. On the same date, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Anton Bal, Bishop of Kundiawa (Papua New Guinea). Until now, Bishop Bal has served as Titular Bishop of Tamalluma and Auxiliary of the same diocese.
