OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - “Keep the WYD spirit alive,” Apostolic Nuncio tells Australian youth

Wednesday, 26 November 2008

Sydney (Agenzia Fides) - “World Youth Day in Sydney was a moment of great grace. And now, it is very important that the WYD spirit remains alive through creative initiatives, designed to promote and renew youth ministry in Australia”: this is what Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, Apostolic Nuncio of Australia, told the youth there, in his opening address to the Australian Bishops in their Plenary Assembly in Sydney.
The Nuncio once again expressed his gratitude to the Holy Father and for the work carried out by the Church in Australia in preparing and organizing the entire world event, which has given a considerable impulse to youth ministry, especially in Oceania. The Nuncio recalled the warm welcome offered to youth pilgrims and the assistance they received during their splendid time in Sydney.
WYD is already bearing fruits in many countries in the Pacific, such as Australia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, and Fiji Island, with events for the youth designed to carry on the spirit and enthusiasm of WYD.
The Australian Bishops will be in their Plenary Assembly until November 28, presided by Archbishop Philip Wilson of Adelaide, President of the Bishops' Conference, discussing this and other themes. The 44 Bishops from 32 dioceses, divided into 12 commissions, will discuss the aboriginal community, Catholic education, pastoral life, and the relationship between faith and missions.
