AMERICA/ECUADOR - Bishops begin their Plenary Assembly on “Mission and Family,” in the Galapagos Islands, now raised to Apostolic Vicariate

Galapagos (Agenzia Fides) – From November 24-28, the Ecuadorian Bishops will be holding their CCXI Plenary Assembly on San Cristobal Island, Galapagos, on the theme: “Mission and Family.”
In the first part of the Assembly, the Bishops will participate in a day-retreat. On the morning of the 25th, they will hold the Opening Session, with addresses from Archbishop Antonio Arregui of Guayaquil, President of the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference, and Archbishop Giacomo Guido Otonello, Apostolic Nuncio of Ecuador. At 7pm, there will be a Mass, featuring the installment of Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Galapagos, Bishop Manuel Valarezo Luzuriaga, appointed this past July 15, when Galapagos was raised to an Apostolic Vicariate.
In the days to follow, the Bishops will reflect on a document drafted by the Permanent Secretariate of the Bishops' Conference and its various commissions; the family and defense of life as part of the Great National Mission in the country; the conclusions from the American Missionary Congress, and other themes pertinent to the Church in Ecuador.
