AMERICA/NICARAGUA - Plenary Assembly of Bishops begins today, November 19, and will conclude with a consecration of the country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

San Rafael (Agenzia Fides) – The Bishops' Conference of Nicaragua will be celebrating its Plenary Assembly in San Rafael del Norte, Jinotega, from November 17-19. During the Assembly, the Bishops will reflect on the social, political, and religious state of the country and vote for their internal leaders within the Conference. The current President of the Bishops' Conference is Archbishop Leopoldo Jose Brenes of Managua. Bishop Jorge Solorzano of Matagalpa mentioned that as for the national situation, “recent municipal elections will be one of the main points for discussion, because we cannot close our eyes to the reality that is being lived out by our nation.”
At the close of the Plenary Assembly, on November 20, the Bishops will concelebrate a Mass in the city of Jinotega, where they will renew the consecration of Nicaragua to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 17/11/2008)
