AFRICA/CAMEROON - Death of Missionary Bishop Jean Pasquier OMI, emeritus of Ngaoundere

Douala (Fides Service) - Bishop Jean Pasquier of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Bishop emeritus of Ngaoundere, died in the early morning of Sunday 7 March at the General Hospital in Doulala, Cameroon, where he had undergone a delicate operation two weeks ago. Born on 31 July 1924 in France in the diocese of Angers, he was ordained on 19 February 1950. Appointed auxiliary Bishop of Garoua, he was elected to the titular see of Muzuca on 29 May 1969 and was ordained a Bishop on August 1, 1969. He was transferred to the diocese of Ngaoundere on 19 November 1982. He presented his resignation on 23 October 2000 having reached the age limit. (S.L.)
