ASIA/CHINA - All Saints’ Parish in Qing Cun, in the Diocese of Shang Hai, celebrates their feast day following the church’s restoration, with an exposition on the Bible

Shang Hai (Agenzia Fides) – The parish church of Qing Cun, dedicated to All Saints, located in the region of Pu Nan in Shang Hai, celebrated its feast on November 1 with a missionary spirit like that of Saint Paul, with an exposition on the Bible, because “the Bible is our daily bread.” Following the guide, that is, the example of the young parish priest Fr. Paul Yu Jia Xuan, the parishioners made spiritual and material preparations, so as to live the feast of their parish in a special manner, after its structural restoration. On the vigil of the feast of All Saints, the faithful cleaned the Church inside and out, alongside their Pastor Fr. Yu, in preparation for the arrival of a missionary group led by a 93 year-old priest named Fr. Francis Yao Jung Xing, ordained in 1943. The priest was surprised and glad to see all the work of his younger brother priest: “he is a young priest in great form, full of missionary zeal, like Saint Paul. I am glad.”
Since the beginning of the Year of Saint Paul, Fr. Yu, ordained in 2002, has made the community come alive with this Jubilee in full communion with the Holy Father and the entire Universal Church, reciting the prayer to the Apostle Paul, to live and spread the spirit of Saint Paul. They have also prepared an exposition on the Bible, in light of their feast on November 1 and the Synod on the Word of God, so that the faithful may be ever more aware of their missionary vocation, invoking Saint Paul and all the Saints, for an improved missionary future for the parish.
The Diocese of Shang Hai is famous for its glorious missionary history, for its Marian Shrine of She Shan, which is a pilgrimage site for Catholics from China and all over Asia, and is home to many heroes of the faith. Historically speaking, it was a French Jesuit mission. Today, the Catholic community is made up of over 100,000 faithful, 70 priests, 80 religious, 30 novices, and a major seminary. There are 110 churches in the Diocese. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 3/11/2008)
