AMERICA/PERU - The Archdiocese of Lima celebrates the Year of St. Paul with a new parish dedicated to the Apostle

Tuesday, 28 October 2008

Lima (Agenzia Fides) – In honor of the Year of St. Paul being celebrated by the Catholic Church, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne presided the Mass held on October 26, erecting the new parish “Virgen del Buen Remedio y San Pablo Apóstol”, in Lima.
In the presence of hundreds of faithful, the Archbishop of Lima mentioned that this new parish would be the heart and soul of its surrounding area. “It will be the place where the Body of Christ will be, in the Tabernacle.” And thus, he said, it should be “a center for His thoughts and directed towards Him.” In his homily, he also explained that the parish “is a place where we come together, not as a group of friends, but as persons called together by Christ.”
In conclusion, the Cardinal mentioned that the Church, as Mother, asks us to bear witness to what we receive – the Body of Christ. And thus, he asked the priests of this new parish to make confession available, as a means of conversion. In the Mass, he also consecrated the Altar and dedicated the Church. The Archbishop of Lima appointed Father Marcelo Portelli Mizzi, MSSP, member of the Missionary Society of St. Paul, as the Pastor of the parish.
Concelebrating with the Cardinal were: Fr. Armando Chico, PES (Episcopal Vicar); Fr. Victor Livori, MSSP (Provincial Superior of the Missionary Society of St. Paul); Father Marcelo Portelli Mizzi, MSSP (the new Pastor); the new assistant pastors Father Hector Attard, MSSP and Father Mario Ramos, MSSP, and other priests from the Archdiocese of Lima (RG) (Agenzia Fides 28/10/2008)
