AMERICA - World Movement of Parliamentary Members and Governors for Life launches a website as a meeting point, a site for intercommunication and information

Rome (Agenzia Fides) – The World Movement of Parliamentary Members and Governors for Life has launched a web page to serve as a meeting point, a site for intercommunication and information.
The new web page recognizes that “the Internet is a powerful means of global communication and, as the defense of life from conception until natural death is a universal objective, we have created this website in order to spread awareness and share information on the various activities being organized by members of Parliaments and governors throughout the world, of different beliefs and different political parties that will bring a breath of fresh air to the world’s citizens, united in this issue that transcends all human differences: DEFENSE OF LIFE.”
The Movement of Parliamentary Members and Governors for Life was begun on November 10, 2007, with the “Act of Santiago,” a document that encompasses its ideals in the fight in defense of human life (see Fides 13/11/2007). Its President is Liliana Negre, with Vice-Presidents Fabiola Morales (Congresswoman from Peru) and Nelly Jerez (member of Parliament in Honduras), Angel Pintado (member of Parliament for Huesca, Spain), Carlos Abascal (former Internal Affairs Minister in Mexico), Carlos Olivares (member of Parliament in Chile), and Jose Ribeiro E Castro (member of the Eurodeputy for Portugal). This association is also responsible for the “Book of Life,” which has already been signed in various parliaments across Central and South America.
On June 2-3, 2008, the group held a large encounter for their Mexican Chapter. Attendees included José Luis Soberanes Fernández, President of the National Mexican Human Rights Commission, Marco Antonio Adame, Governor of the State of Morelos, and Imelda Márquez Fiol, Secretary General of the Electoral Court in Baja California (See Fides 9/7/2008).
There is a growing awareness among the political class in Latin America of the need to defend the lives of children and mothers from the culture of death being caused by abortion. On March 27, 2008 108 members of Parliament in Honduras signed the “Book of Life,” on the 60th anniversary of the Universal Convention on Human Rights, promising to respect life from conception until natural death. Later on, the Book of Life reached El Salvador, where on June 5, it was signed by all the members of Parliament (108) (see Fides 20/6/2008). On February 1, 2008, they celebrated their first encounter in Brazil. In Guatemala, 71 deputies signed the “Book of Life” on August 12, 2008. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 02/10/2008)
