Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – “Walking with Saint Paul” is the theme chosen by the Diocese of Hong Kong for the celebration of World Mission Sunday 2008, which this year will be celebrated on October 12, in the Xiao Xi Wan Stadium. According to a report from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Bishop Dominic Chan, Vicar of Hong Kong, has announced the program for the diocesan celebration, which links World Mission Sunday to the Year of St. Paul. There will also be three Seminars on Evangelization offered, where participants will discuss the charism of religious institutes, prayer life, and evangelization. The missionary religious institutes that have played an important role in Hong Kong over the years will organize the event.
The October 12th event is expected to host 10,000 lay faithful, the Maryknoll missionaries (MM), the Verbitas (SVD), PIME, and missionaries of the Precious Blood (SPB), as well as members of the Catholic Missionary Association of Hong Kong, who will present their missionary work, their social and educational service, and demonstrate the various habits from each Order. There will also be personal testimonies from the missionaries. The priests, religious, laity, and young people of Hong Kong who attended World Youth Day in Sydney will participate in the solemn procession on October 12, in representation of the continuity of the missionary transmission in Hong Kong. Bishop John Tong, Coadjutor Bishop of Hong Kong will preside the rite of the sending forth of missionaries. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 15/9/2008)
