OCEANIA/SOLOMON ISLANDS - First postulants in the Diocese of Auki

Tuesday, 9 September 2008

Auki (Agenzia Fides) – Hope has come for the religious of the Diocese of Auki, with the arrival of five young women from the Solomon Islands who wish to follow Christ in the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) who stayed in the Formation House in the Diocese, as they continue their path as postulants.
The permanent presence of a Formation House of female religious life is an historical moment for the local people, the religious told Agenzia Fides. The hope is that it will spur the interests of the youth, especially young women, and that it may become a center of evangelization, as well as vocational discernment and formation for many more.
The five postulants are working in the pastoral activities of the local Church, helping out with catechism classes and charitable activity.
The Salesian Sisters (Daughters of Mary Help of Christians) also inaugurated a new house named after Mamma Margherita, the mother of Don Bosco (see Fides 15/7/2008).
According to local Church sources, the women, both religious and laity, of the Catholic community on the Solomon Islands are called to a greater awareness of their role, their potential, and their charism, so that they can offer an evermore efficacious service to society and to the local Church, with their talents and spirit.
