ASIA/HONG KONG - Hong Kong’s Lay Catholic Association’s missionary work in Africa

Tuesday, 9 September 2008

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) – “The work of the missionaries is incredible! They have helped me to find the value of life.” This was the commentary made by one of the members of Hong Kong’s Lay Catholic Association, after his missionary experience. According to a report from the Kong Ko Bao (the Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), three lay members of the Association were in Kenya July 19 to August 2. They were amazed by the dedication of the missionaries and at the same time, they were also amazed at the living conditions that the missionaries and the population are surrounded by. This experience has also made them realize their own missionary responsibility. According to the Association’s leader, “this experience helps our laity to reflect on their own role in evangelizing and on promoting the foreign missions.” The three laymen also visited a lay woman from the Hong Kong-based Association who is working on the missions in Kenya. The Association has been sending over lay faithful to Africa for 12 years now, to have a missionary experience for a brief period of time or for a longer stay as lay missionaries.
