Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) – “Ecumenism? Instead of waiting for others we must take the first step said Archbishop Hong Shan Chuan, SVD., of Tai Pei, during a novena to welcome the Year of St Paul organised in a parish dedicated to St Paul. According to Christian Life Weekly, issued by the diocese of Tai Pei, Archbishop Hong called on the faithful to take the opportunity of the special Year of St Paul to intensify missionary efforts for evangelisation. He said the goal is 15,000 new Christians by the end of the year which will also be the 150th anniversary of the first evangelisation of Taiwan. 'Wishfully thinking' the Archbishop suggested that the "archdiocese might keep some catechumens so that Pope can come and baptise them, at the end of the liturgical year, the Feast of Christ the King!". The special novena was celebrated in all churches dedicated to St Paul and the Sisters of Saint Teresa the Little Flower opened the Year of St Paul with a special Day of Spirituality.
