Quito (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of Ecuador began their 120th Plenary Assembly April 21, at the Bethania Social Formation Center, with the goal of evaluating the work performed in the last three years and of choosing a new directive for the Ecuadorian Bishops’ Conference.
In the first part of the Assembly, the Bishops participated in a day of retreat, directed by Bishop Jesus Esteban Sadaba.
Today, April 22, at 9am, there was an opening session with talks from Bishop Nestor Herrera of Machala, President of the Bishops’ Conference, and Archbishop Giacomo Guido Otonello, Apostolic Nuncio of Ecuador.
During the Assembly, they will also discuss the progress being made in the organization of the Third American Missionary Congress (CAM 3) that will take place in Quito this August. They will later hold an evaluation of the last three years in the Bishops’ Committees. On April 23, following the presentation of the results of the evaluation, a new directive will be chosen for 2008-2010.
The third and final part of the Plenary Assembly will be dedicated to Committee meetings, for programming activities for the next three years. The Assembly concludes Friday, April 25. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 22/4/2008; righe 17, parole 191)
