EUROPE/SPAIN - Handbook on Objection of Conscience against compulsory 'education to citizenship'

Monday, 21 January 2008

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - Recently in Madrid a Legal Handbook on Objection of Conscience against compulsory 'education to citizenship' in schools was presented by Members of the Professionals of Morals Association to help parents clarify doubts about the right to objection of conscience with regard to this controversial school subject. The handbook answers a series of 73 questions on the issue from a juridical point of view for parents who do not wish their children to attend these lessons: for example the immediate effects of objection; the rights of parents; who can object?; practical consequences and advice for the family. The handbook, which is expected to reach about four million parents, can also be down-loaded free of charge from the Internet or requested via info@profesionalesetica.org
Jaime Urcelay, president of the association, announced immediate activities to oppose Education to Citizenship: presentation of a Report on Education to Citizenship in Spain; battle for freedom, set for 23 January at the European Parliament in Brussels; international campaign promoted by objector parents in various countries and in international courts and the First National Meeting for Objectors in Madrid 16 February.
